A hammertoe is a deformity of the toe that causes the toe to bend in the middle of the toe joint. A bending of the two joints in the toe is called a claw toe deformity. Both deformities can be painful and stiff. They can cause difficulty wearing certain type of shoes and painful calluses/corns may erupt. There are many treatment options for alleviating the pain caused by hammertoes/claw toes; some conservative and some surgical.
