Bunions

A Bunion, also known as hallux abducto valgus, is a deformity of the great toe joint (metatarsophalangeal joint) that causes the joint to enlarge and stick out laterally. The big toe will then turn in and sometimes evens underlap or overlap the other toes. People with bunions will often experience pain with irritation from shoe gear. As the bunion enlarges it can cause more and more pain with walking. The joint deformity also tends to develop arthritis overtime leading to more pain. Bunions do not go away by themselves, if you have a painful bunion you should have it evaluated by a podiatrist. Treatment often includes paddings and shoe gear adjustments. Your doctor may recommend Orthotic devices. Sometimes bunions require surgical correction.
